Hey all. I'm from WA state. I like to garden, hunt and do leathercraft and Gourd art. I try to be as self sufficient as I can. Nice to find this forum.

Welcome huntress. Please dont be shy. Are you looking to move to Alaska or are you just wanting to share with like minded folks? Do you tan your own leather from what you hunt? I am wanting to learn brain tanning and how to sew hides properly. What do you hunt when you go? This is going to be a new aspect to my life this year. I am wanting to go moose hunting. Do you can your garden goods?

LOL. No, I'm not looking to move to Alaska - yet....I moved to WA from the east coast over 2 years ago and like it here just fine. I would however like to visit Alaska. My s/o has been there and talks about going back. I guess I just wanted to share with like minded folks. A lot of my co workers and friends think I'm a little on the odd side because of my interests. I haven't tanned anything yet - just stretched and dried some things. I have an intact(not skinned or gutted) coyote in the freezer along with a beaver skin and coon skin. Just waiting and trying to figure out what I'd like to do with the yote. I'm interested in taxidermy also. I used to work in a harness shop where I learned to love leathercraft work. I've made Jim(s/o) a scabbard, wallets, dog collars/leads, checkbook covers and a number of other useful things. I'll have a machine within the next month or so and will be able to really sew things then. I hunt deer and elk so far. I hunt with a bow and Jim hunts with a rifle. He went to BC last fall and came back with a moose. We're still enjoying it but it's almost gone. We gave a lot away. I haven't canned anything yet - I don't know how to can. We froze a lot of stuff last year and I'll probably do that again this year. I have a food saver this year. We don't grow a lot of stuff yet. Tomatoes, squash, onions, peppers, celery. We were busy with some major outside remodeling this year, so maybe next year we'll grow more. I'd like to have some hens again also. Thats about all from here for now. Looking forward to being here.

Hi, Huntress.
I have always dreamed of life in the wilderness, but I fell in love with a city boy so we compromised. We live on a small acreage outside of town, and we go camping and I go fishing.
It isn't quite enough but DH is a keeper so we make it work! I come here to visit with like-minded folks.
Welcome!
