The "Over the counter" land sales are really a good deal. The state will finance at prime plus 3%.Prime rate has risen considerably in a few months.Might just be a time to watch and see what happens in the market, unless you have more cash than you know what to do with(Not one of my problems)..GR

Wash! Nice to see you too. ;D This comes directly from the FAQ page... Non-residents who are at least 18 years of age, may also participate in an auction if parcels being offered have no residency requirements or are being sold for commercial, industrial, or agricultural use. A non-resident may purchase over-the-counter subdivision lotsWash... That is what it says. It gives some hope, doesn't it? Or are we not understanding this correctly? www.dnr.state.ak.us/mlw/landsale/sale_faq.htm

Chuck: Do you have a homestead or did you buy land? I got my homestead in the 1995 land for Alaskans lottery, and I'm sure there is a resident requirment for this type of land (stake and prove-up homestead)
Buying land is a different deal all-together. There are many land sales programs offered in the state of Alaska, Over the Counter at DNR, mental health trust land, University land grant property, native land claims, etc.

In Alaska, land can be bought from the state Department of Natural resources for %5 down, and the rest on payments. Almost any Alaska resident can get this deal.

That was about the time we moved back out here to our homestead and found that we could no longer get internet access since the phone company switched to digital from the analog system we had before. We obtained our land like you did, in the homestead offering. I thought it was in '94, but could have been '95. We had to stake it and prove up.
