So is there any one out there that is not battening down for the wonderful long cold winter?? Gardens put to rest, wood in, foods put up. Winds are kicking up here and there is snow to the middle of the mountains here, around the anchorage area. I still have to move the boat and wood and cut up the wood for winter but everything else should be ok to freeze where it is until next spring.
chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp, it really has been way to quiet here for to long chirp, chirp.

We are! Little by little. We have at least 2 months before snow will fly, though, where we are. My husband is taking some vacation time soon so we can get as much as possible done before winter. Nice to see someone posting.

Ah, alas, the LONG winter is the problem!
I would enjoy winter if it were only a LITTLE shorter! Snow is lovely and fires in the fireplace are homey and comforting, but it will be TOO long before I can get into the garden again!
Our winters in Kansas may be short comparted to yours, but I grew up in California so for me, 4-5 months is LOONG! Though, at least we do not get Californias depressing, grey winters! A little sunshine on the snow helps to no end!
Tell me, I see that the front page of the site still says that the magazine WILL be coming out this summer! Did it ever get started up?

I like the winters in Alaska. It is the time of year that a person can travel on the frozen rivers, or ride a snowmachine across the swamps. My homestead seems to have only two seasons: Winter and Bugs! Ha Ha.
OK, I enjoy the summer too, but winter is my favorite.
