Last summer I MEANT to get trellises up for the cukes, but I never did. I will get them up this Fall/Winter. Of course get seeds, though I need so few of them. Most packets have too many seeds in them for one year.
I have some greens and green onions in buckets that can be brought inside to survive the first few frosts. The lettuce that is grown in the ground here is usually unpleasantly bitter, but this lettuce in a bucket is sweet and good. It's probably the cooler weather.
The blackberries will need pruning, the grass given one last mowing to level out the ragged spots, and I think I want a big heap of leaves in the garden. I am thinking that I might try to plant onions in pure leaves with fertilizer on top. I might not do it: it is just an impulse. I expect that the roots would EVENTUALLY reach the soil, and since our soil is so heavy the onions might get bigger instead of staying small and hot. I must think on this one some more.
I planted a Fall garden in August, but I suspect that I will get nothing from them. As the weather cools the growth slows, and the plants are flat out not big enough. Ah, well.
