I was reading more in February and March and zipped through several books. Here are two about Alaska:
*~* The Final Frontiersman by James Campbell (I think someone on this board recommended this one, but I can't seem to find the post now)
*~* Arctic Homestead by Norma Cobb
I thoroughly enjoyed them both and since they are true stories, I think they provide a good account of what life is really like in Alaska (not that I know what it is really like up there, LOL;) )

Have you ever read Tisha? It's about a young woman who went to Chicken, Alaska (current pop. last time I was there was 24 people and one old grouch!) to teach school way back when.

I should add, this is another true story -- her daughter still lives in the area, and when we lived in Tok, I saw her driving around (her truck has ads for the book on it!).

No, Kathleen, I haven't read that one, but I do think I've heard of it. The storyline sounds familiar. Thank you! I'll have to check for that one at the library. Kristin

I'll think of some more later -- Grandma has some books about Alaska that are pretty good. I just hate to read the ones by people who visited up there for a few days, and then think they know everything there is to know about Alaska!

I have read both and think the final frontiersman is an excellent book. Artic Homestead is pretty good as well. What other suggestions are out there? One Man's wilderness is top notch as well as an addition? Thoughts anyone? I would like one with lots of actual photos.

the nice thing about the movie is they show him actually making the cabin and how he does some of the stuff he does. It is great. Great for learning. I have the DVD and watch it often.

Have you read the book Waltz With Me,Alaska? It was written by Donna Blasor-Bernhardt. She and her family lived in a tent while building their log home. Her wonderful spirit and the love for her family and Alaska.I hope they make a movie.
