I agree with Bob, no great loss there, tho he did take some good pics before he was lunch... Speaking of moose, this morning on my way in to work at 3am it was about 34 degrees, melting everywhere, yukky sloppy road, dakr and raining, and lo and behold, there be a moose in the road. I haven't seen many moose this year (maybe 3 in the past 6 months) and he was quite unexpected. Luckily I was driving down the middle of my side of the road (happened to be 3 lanes at this point), if I hadn't been, I'da had moose on car. Wolfie

Does anyone up there have Moose antlers on their car hoods? Like the Texans put Cow horns on their car hoods. I just had this vision, Picture this, sled dogs, pulling a sled that has Moose antlers attached to the front of the sled. That I can do! better yet, I will do!

for all of you that were interested in the movie braving alaska, i checked the web site this past week and the movie is not available for sell any longer. But you can get on amazon and order the one about dick proenneke, the 2 dvd set of alone in the wilderness. in the first one he builds his rustic cabin as folks did years ago up here. all the way to sod roofs. he shows you how. In the second movie it is about his thirty years out in the wilderness and what he lived like. i have seen the first one on pbs but the second one i havent seen yet. it promices to be as good as the first.

I've seen the first one, too, Wash. I watch it every time it is on PBS. I haven't seen the second one, though. I'd love to see it. I guess I'll go over to Amazon and see ifI can find it. Thanks for the tip on this. K

i just ordered them for me. i loved the first one so i figured for about 22 per it would be worth it to get the 2. You have options of ordering the book, one mans wilderness with the movies or ordering the movie part one. I have the book so i opted for both of the movies.

I just found a Braving Alaska vhs tape on eBay. It went for $10. It is good, a little on the general side, but it was great to see the Korthsd. I loved the Final Frontiersman. That is a great book. I am mid way through Artic Son. they keep talking about the filming of their year in the bush. Does anyone know the title of the film? Was it ever released? I can not find anything by searching on their last names.
Thanks if anyone has info.
Sean

Washkeeton,
Yes Jean Aspen and Artic Son. I would love to see this film if it was ever produced. I like her writing style as she has plenty of detail woven into the story.
Thanks, Sean

Thanks for the heads up! We bought the tape! We sure are getting tired of watching someone else do it though! We will be selling it again on Ebay when we are done viewing it. We wont be able to use it when we get to Alaska. We are just waiting for the house to sell!!! Anyone interested in a cheap house in Northern Wisconsin? We have the bus loaded and ready to go but this white elephant is taking its sweet time to sell. Hoped to use snowmobiles to take our supplies out!

Frostbite: Since we are a long way from a road system this is the closest we can come to emulating those little states.

Hidee Yall, I just recieved my VHS copy of the National Geographic Video: Braving Alaska. I ordered it thursday late and got it in the Postal Mail this morning (Saturday) from somewhere in Texas. I'm in Virginia. I had trouble locating it because I was looking in the wrong place on Amazon. I found it on Amazons DVD/ VHS section under "National Geographic Braving Alaska." There were four known sources new and another 7 in used condition. My new one cost me a whopping $13 bucks w/s&h and I am thoroughly delighted.
Though the video is only 60 minutes long it is long on real life practicality. I think it gives a solid look at what can be expected in the way of lifestyle though a bit brief. Well worth the money- infact I think its a must see.
the ISBN is: 0792223861 take care folks, carney
