Hey Everyone!!! This is a joyous time for us, for we are finally making the relocation from Wisconsin to the bush!!! Wadooooooo!!! I have a question...Well, We are doing research on where we will be going in ( starting point) and we know we can park the bus there for a week while making the many trips to load our supplies...But does anyone know of a cheap place to park Gus the Bus for a little while while we try to possibly sell it... We will be starting off in or around the Wasilla area...We also don't want to traumatize my kitty cat too much by dragging her back and forth the trails...Is there any way to find out where I might leave her for a week??? One more thing please... Does anyone know any good snowmachine trails from the Alexander creek area to the road system. Thanks so much!!!! Cynthia and Robert P.S I don't ask for much huh? LOL

;D CONGRATULATIONS ! ! ! ;D
I was hoping someone else would reply, but maybe everyone else is as stumped as I am. I don't have any wonderfully earth-shattering ideas for you, but here's what I came up with. Maybe it'll give you a starting point and some better ideas.
Wal Mart (and I hate Wal Mart) used to let folks park their campers in their parking lot for free. Don't know if they still do, but it would be worth it to contact the store manager in Wasilla to ask. I'm sure there are camp grounds around. Will you be staying in/with Gus while you try to sell him? That will make a difference in the camp ground idea. If not, how about one of those Park and Sell places. They're all over Anchorage, and I think they have one or more in the Wasilla/Palmer area. If you talk to someone at Wal Mart, they may be able to direct you. It's been years since we've tried to sell anything, but the Anchorage Daily news used to have a thing where if you advertised a vehicle in their newspaper for a week (I think) then they'd put a free picture ad in their auto trader or truck trader. It worked great for us. Don't know if they still do that, but maybe someone else here on the forum could give you some ideas.
It's kind of traumatic for cats to board at a vet, but you could call around. Once we kept our dog at a VCA place on 74th in Anchorage. He handled it much better than we expected. Never had to leave our cat anyplace. Guess I'm not clear on what you're doing. Are you going to have sort of a "home base" while you get all your things to Alexander Creek? If so, a vet may be able to help you find somebody that will come check on kitty, make sure she has plenty of food and water, and some lap time if she'll warm up to a stranger.
Wow! Just looked in the Anchorage Yellow Pages under Pets for business that will take care of your pets. Almost 2 full pages --- under Pet Boarding, Pet Day Care Centers, and Pet Exercising, Sitting & Maintenance. Since I'm in Anchorage right now, I don't have a Mat-Su phone book, but there are probably listings in it, as well.
As for snow machine trails to/from Alexander Creek, aren't there some snow machine clubs around? They would know. Maybe call some of the snow machine dealers. There are tons listed in the phone book. Here are just a few: Alaska Power Sports -- 1-800-478-0500 Marita Sea & Ski -- 1-800-770-2744 Wasilla Arctic Cat -- 1-907-376-5845
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Jenny, Couldn't be more help!!!? Your great? Yeah we will take about a week to unload the bus and get eveything out there, that is if the weather permits??? There may be a night or two when we will use the bus as a base camp, but after all is said and done, we will try the park and sell thingy, as you mentioned. On Walmart...(I hate it too) I spent years hearing about it and never shopped there because of how they squeeze out all the Mom and Pop stores. One day I had a walmart gift card from a friend at work and went to buy some much needed supplies and to develope some film, WHAT A CIRCUS!!! It was like a bunch of naked pigs feasting on a free buffet ! and to top it all off when I received my film they had censored it and threw away a picture of two girlfriends that posed for me on a boulder and mooned the Camera.. Can you believe that?! Needless to say, I refused to pay and have not been back since! Oh well I can rant all day about that! Back to kitty...If the weather is mild enough...I can leave her on the bus with an electric heater, for short periods of time because we should be there everyday. I just thought I would get Ideas from you wonderful people. Thanks so much for your info and Congrats! We are so excited! Cynthia. P.S Bravo to Vermont! for not letting Walmart take over!!!!!

Fred Myers has always allowed people to park their campers in their parking lot too. I'm not sure about the one in Wasilla, but I KNOW both of em in Fairbanks allow it. I could point you in a hundred directions if you were talking about the fairbanks area, but I've only traveled through Wasilla etc....so don't know much "local" info. Good luck!

I work for Fred Meyer, don't park at the one in Palmer or Wasilla, they aren't allowing it anymore. They used to, but of course, people have taken advantage and ruined it for those that don't. It's the way it goes with anything. I don't know about the WalMart in Wasilla either, I know this past summer there sure were a LOT of RVs there. Also, there's a place on the Parks Hwy, near Wes Bob's tire, across from the fairgrounds in Palmer, that's either a campground or a place to sell that type of thing. Might want to try that.

Oh, almost forgot. (BTW, this is Jenny) I was talking with the owner of Trail Ridge Air at Lake Hood. He said they fly folks in and out of Alexander Creek sometimes and knows several folks there. I told him we'd been in touch with some folks who were moving to the area and were asking about snow machine trails. He said that most years the trail is good, but not this year. He said you're welcome to call them. Don't know if he knows the trail or if he'll put you in touch with someone from out there.
