That's why I'm thinking of an octagon... the logs would be fairly short for I too need to do it by myself. The drawback that I see will be the need to do a whole lot more cutting!

So, just an update. We wound up getting rid of the gin pole. We successfully pulled and rolled the two biggest logs onto the site to use as the sill logs. It was almost easy enough to do without the truck. We had several blocks and lots of line though. Here's a pic of the fist logs on the foundation.  NOW, we got an Alaska Chainsaw Mill with a Husqvarna 3120xp saw. It too is giving us quite a headache. I think that I'll step into the mill forum to discuss that though. THANKS!
