I have to say that i have two that equal each other but are very different in approach.
the 1st is: Building the Alaskan Log Home: Tom Walker. This book delves into the particulars of building in the colder region which NONE of the other books touch on at all. this is a must have. ISBN: 088240511X $29.95
2nd is: From Log to log House: Sven-Gunnar Hakansson. This is a translated work from Sweden, oh my what beautiful handiwork. These folks know what they are doing. ISBN: 1894572726 approx. $30 I think
If you only buy a couple these are the two.
others i have are:
How to Build Your Dream Cabin: Wayne Fears The Complete Guide to Building Log Homes: Monte Burch Creative Country Construction: R. Inwood & C. Bruyere Cabins: D.& J. Stiles Log Cabin Classics: Obomsawin
The smartest design i have come across is the cross design. simply draw a red cross symbol, place your logs around the cross- each section with three sides. place the stove right in the center of the cross. equal heating of each of the 4 rooms.
