My wife Carol and myself live year round on the Outlet of Lower Ugashik Lake which is 80 air miles south of King Salmon and 30 miles up the Ugashik River from Ugashik Village. We started building our place here in 1985 and I refer to it as a cabin out of control. We decided to make this our home and moved here full time after retirement in 1995. We have invested heavily in the sweat equity program as we built and maintained everything ourselves. A great deal of our food is from hunting/fishing/gathering and we also trap on a small scale. Have lived totally from renewable energy since 1999 with almost all the luxery's of the urban dwellers. Looking forward to meeting people with like minded intrests

I love hearing stories about self-reliance.

Bob,
Look forward to hearing all about your experience on Ugashik Lake. I am sure that Pam and I could learn a great deal from you guys. Love to hear you input on everything.

Hi UgashikBob, I told my husband "Family Trapper" that I ran into a friend of his today! What a small world huh? He shares your emails with me and I feel like I know you a bit too. The pictures of your home were such a treat! My! Oh My! You and your wife have worked hard on your place and it is a work of art! Glad to know you'll be hanging around here sharing.

Bob, Boy, would that be something to come and see your place! ...and pick your brain on all the how to's and why's. Hey, are you getting plenty of snow over your way? We are about snowed in here but now it is starting to rain. Yuck! I sure do feel the day light increasing and that makes me HAPPY!
Back to packing boxes, Bushmomma

Haven't had the covers off from our snowmobiles yet this year. We are going through our third breakup so far this winter. The lake freezes up just long enough to create enough ice to jam up in front of the house when it warms like it is now. Don't envy you packing. When we moved out here we at one point had over 300 hundred boxes stored down at the village. Thankfully that was the year we had our landing craft built and it was a lot faster getting them up here then all the building materials we brought up by skiff.
