I was so happy to find this website. My family and I hope to move up there in a couple of years (have to save, save, save) and I've gone nearly mad trying to find good information on homesteading and similar subjects. I've just begun exploring the site, and am really enjoying myself.
We lived in Anchorage for a few years, and I must say that we've been homesick since we left. This time, though, we'll be heading further north - perhaps Fairbanks, Delta Junction, or some such city. For now we say Fairbanks, but it will depend on jobs and that sort of thing.
For now we're sitting tight here in Ocean Springs, and hoping there's not another good hurricane before we get to skip town. ;D
Anyway, just a quick note to say "hi" and nice to e-meet you.

Lots of Prayers for you folks in Hurricaine land.......Gosh! I can only think of six or seven critters in the south that can and will kill yah.....and Mother Nature adds Hurricaines.....But on the good side.....at least there is lots of work where you are....lots of critters them La. folks will teach you to cook and eat.........most anything that don't bite them.....(I love em...They were good to me!)........Did you note in any of your papers they found a five foot gator in a fishing hole in Kallispel Montana..... .....I know folks that would cook him up in a hurry!

Thank you, idaholady, for the prayers. There are still so many here that need them.
You're right about the Cajuns (love them dearly, hard to find better cooking) but I'm pretty sure they'll cook the one's that will bite you back too, lol. (I'd be one of the one's that would have fired up that gator they found ;D )
You're right about the jobs. You can grab a pretty decent job rather quickly around here. There are businesses that rebuilt, but cannot open full time yet because they do not have enough employees. Several casinos have reopened, and building/cleanup continues. It's all very hopeful.
