Finally, we got our chicken coop done. The only thing left to do is make a window or two. My hubby is going to cut out some windows and put wire grid screen over it so no animals can climb in. Then in the winter he is going to put some plexiglass over the wire screen. What he cuts out of the coop will be a door on hinges that we can close right over the screens.
Our chickens seem very happy and we just love them.
We need to make a couple of chicken tractors now. Maybe three, not sure.
Oh, our fancy rooster that came free with our order died. The kids were sad and I was worried that something was wrong, but the remainder of the chickens seem healthy. We should get eggs in a month or two.

Great job. Wish I were already in Alaska planning my chicken coop... Kim Kim ~ you know that I am not in Alaska, right? Although this place "feels" like Alaska in winter. I hope you realize your Alaskan dream soon. Can you get chickens where you are or would that slow down your goals? k

Hi Kristianna, I do realize you are not in Ak, though you long to be. Maybe someday your dh will realize it isn't so bad... You can hope huh? Anyway, I cannot have chickens here in Las Vegas, where I live currently. I am hoping to be in Ak this summer though and if I am good with the timing and the home I am able to get when I get there I may have chickens this summer yet. DH promised that if we find a home with some type of structure that can be used for chickens I can order some right away and not wait. And he will get to work on a sort of run for them first thing. Just have to get there soon!
We did take a trip to AK a few weeks ago and I am telling you I fell in love. I was worried that I would get there and realize that it wasn't the right place for me, and that I would quietly move there because DH loved it so much. But thankfully when I got there my heart fell in love and I didn't want to come back here to Vegas. We have our eye on a house there, but with our house here not on the market yet for a couple of weeks we couldn't do anything about it much as we would have liked. Now just have to bust my bottom getting this house sold so I can get up there and offer on that other place. It is perfect for us... Thanks, Kim

We freecycle and recycle here. You could use a old storm window with the screen in for summer, etc and then in winter you canclose the window.
