Well, down here in Kansas, I am starting the blackberry and honey harvest! I took 2 deep frames of honey, and I hope to pick blackberries tonight as the shadows get long! (It will be cooler, then!)
OK, MOST people would have waited until the bees had filled the entire box (10 frames), but I have a buyer for the berries and I have no buyer for the honey. I figure on bringing along a free sample of my honey, and I BET I get an excelent honey customer!
I didn't have enough energy to plant a garden this spring (I am slightly disabled), but I DID let what was left of last years carrots go to seed, and I am hoping for volenteer carrots this fall. I have a 30' row of blooming carrots, so I MIGHT get a lot, and more should come up next spring.
The chickens are pouring out eggs, the apples and pears will soon be ripe, and I discovered that crappie are NUTS for anything dipped in tuna oil from those little cans! I would have RATHER gotten the catfish that I was fishing for, but since the bait never got down to the bottom of the lake, we ate crappie instead. They were good.
How are things going at YOUR homes? Are you all having an enjoyable and satisfying summer, or are you all working to hard?
