Howdy again! Just reread my old posts and wow a lot has changed since then! We didn't stay where we had moved to. We are now in the Marquette area of Michigans Upper Peninsula. We like it here but are considering it "training grounds" for moving to Alaska in two years! ;D Nearly six month long winters, 250 inches annually of snow and a short growing season ought to help us adjust. Surprisingly this was at the suggestion of my wife who previously was afraid to move to far from family. You only live once so follow your dreams to the end! We really don't know yet where we want to end up in AK other then being AWAY from the population centers (Anchorage, Juneau). We intend to do a LOT of research over the next couple years. We are already "practicing" many things we can do here. Anyhow just wanted to say "hello" again.

Welcome back. Tell us about some of your adventures that you all have already had. Dont be afraid to ask questions either. We will all be glad to answer what we can.

Altho I would love to, I don't expect us to live out in the bush. We would like to find a town or at most a small city to live a 1/2 hour or so outside of. Reasonably priced land, little to no zoning, we would love to build our own cabin/home (have some experience, need more before then). Climate wise I'm not sure. We love the snow but have heard that S.E. Alaska is absolutely beautiful. Maybe somewhere between the two? We would prefer to be close to the main road systems for ease of travel/exploring. I can't really think of anything else right now. Anyone have any suggestions for us to start researching?

There really arnt many roads in ak you know. lol Seriously what are you looking for climate wise, I think AK can cover most of it. I am really tired cause it is my first day back to work after 3 weeks off. PM me about the land and I can give you some sites that cover most of ak. DO NOT buy anything sight un seen.

Thanks for the warning about buying land unseen. That is something we definitely plan not to do.
