I'm sorry, smwon. Perhaps some outdoor activity might help you feel better?
I know that when I am under stress, a fishing trip often helps. And, since you live in Oregon, can you plant a winter garden? Winter greens and such?

Hi Linda,
This is Jenny. We're soooooo sorry to hear that it didn't work out. I do wish you'd tell us more, though. Maybe later the timing will be better for you. I hope so. And I hope you will stay around here and keep posting. We missed you when you didn't have internet access!
Take care,
Jenny and Chuck

Well there really wasn't or rather isn't much to tell. I don't recommend moveing to Alaska at the beginning of winter... summer would be a much better time to try and make a go of it. Alaska is awesome, but I have learned it really is like any other place and in reality it is 'just a place'. I have land here and family and friends... I am going to stay.
Thanks ya'll. I will stop in when I get a chance. Hopefully I will get a computer again soon... maybe.

Hi Linda, I too am sorry to see that the Alaska move didn't work out quite like you planned. I really did enjoy reading your posts and questions because in 2 yrs. I plan on making the move up north as well. I learned a lot from your posts and you asked a lot of the same questions that I have. So, thank you for setting forth on your adventure, no matter how short or long it was, it was still a dream of yours to do and you did it. You did something that many dream of, but don't follow thru on. You did it....!!!!!! and for that I am thankful. You have given me the courage to pursue my dream as well. Thank you............
Besides, being in the great state of Oregon surrounded with family and friends, sounds to me like you already have a piece of heaven.....
I wish you the best,
brent

Well, at least you WENT and found out for yourself - you should take pride in that! That's kindof like the episode of Andy Griffith, where Howard thought he wanted to live on an island. So he goes and buys a piece of land on this remote island, and starts spending time in a hammock....well, he finds out he really doesn't like it, and returns to Mayberry. Andy tells him he should feel proud that he went and found out it actually wasn't a good fit for him; that he has a life there. Same thing, LOL. At least when you are elderly, you won't be looking back with regrets!

Besides, being in the great state of Oregon surrounded with family and friends, sounds to me like you already have a piece of heaven..... I wish you the best, brent I still think Alaska is awesome... maybe someday. Someone said the Alaska of my youth was gone... however, I think that Alaska is still there, but so many people and they are much more advanced than here... well I got that impression. However, a lot of people go to Alaska to get 'away' from things and as Waskeeton has said... people disappear all the time up there. Not you nice folks like here on this forum, but there are less scrupulous people and they seem to have opted for the wilds of Alaska so they can use drugs and do other not so savory things… I do want to be in Alaska, but I am not sure I would ever try it alone again… if I did it would defiantly be in the summer to begin with. Thanks Brent for making me feel good and I do hope your dreams come to fruitage... my family does mean a lot to me and it is really nice to have them around once more.

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out...maybe you can consider coming up here seasonally? There are lots of small lodges that offer housing and a less touristy experience.
This winter sure came in rough, didn't it?

Oh it wasn't the weather... really. I just didn't have any place to stay and had to come back here... ok, the gigs up! LOL... that isn't the WHOLE story, but as close as you will get. Maybe next time it will work out that I can stay. If there is a next time. However... in saying that I wonder if I REALLY want the dark winters again? I would love to spend a year there starting in spring or breakup and go through the whole year... now that would be a cool thing to do!
