Or how to use a composting toilet...
Sawdust toilets were around long before flush toilets...
Tis easy... you just pick the bucket up by the handle, carry it to the compost bin... lift it up by the handle and the bottom edge and tip it over the compost bin. But that doesn't finish flushing... now you use something... a stick, shovel, anything (used only for this) level out the deposit and cover good with a nice thick layer of straw or other material... now ya gotsta rinse the bucket out with water (pouring that on the compost) then you use a toilet brush (that you keep right there hung on the bin) and scrub the inside of the bucket with more water and maybe some homemade soap. Then you pour that on the compost too... then you let the bucket sit and dry... now you fill up a different bucket (the one that was left to dry at the last flushing) with sawdust. Grab another bucket (that was the sawdust bucket before) and put a layer of sawdust in the bottom (maybe 1/4 of the bucket) then take both back into the bathroom... set the lid on (or put in the throne cabinet) set the sawdust bucket close by and the flushing chore is done! Oh ya! Don't forget to wash your hands! Hum, a bit more complicated than a normal flush throne. Maybe that's why they are not that popular yet... or rather anymore. They used to be used much like described long before 'the flush' was here....
Perhaps that isn't 'flushing', maybe more like 'cleaning'. This is probably flushing... "after each deposit add a good amount of sawdust... then close lid".
Then too... it would be even less complicated with an outhouse. I am partial to the sawdust toilet myself. I was wondering how a person would do this in Alaska. Being froze for a much longer time than in the other states. I thought, because believe it or not... they do not stink... I would have the compost bins in my greenhouse. Anybody have any ideas?
